Wonderful Monday...

Well hope your weekend was a good as mine, we had a fabulous day
with our church family, the word of God preached plain and simple
for all to hear and understand, we had a good SS class, and we all
are leaning how important prayer is in the life of a Christian.

Today I am going to post a good old fashioned bread I made last
week, its texture and amout of air is just perfect. You ready get your
get your pad to write it down. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Then I put some homemade Strawberry jam on top, oh talk about good.

Barbara's Old Time White Bread
2 cups milk
1 pkg active dry yeast, or 1 cake compressed yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees)
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons shortening
2 1/2 tespoons salt
6 cups all purpose flour

Scald milk, soften yeast in warm water, let stand 5 min.
Pour scalded milk over sugar, shortening and salt, in a bowl.
When luke warm blend in one cup of flour
Stir yeast and beat well.
Add 3 cups of flour, continuing until smooth.
(I use my Kitchen aid bread beaters, works wonderful)
Beat in remaining flour until you have a soft dough.
Turn unto lightly floured surface, let rest 5 minutes.
Knead until smooth and elastic, place dough in a greased
bowl; turn to bring greased surface to top and cover.
Let stand in warm place until dough has dobled in size,
Punch down, let rise again until almost doubled in size.
Turn unto floured surface, Divide dough in half. Let rest
5 - 10 minutes, shape into loaves, place in 2 greased loaf pans.
Cover and let rise until doubled, about an hour.
Bake at 400 degrees, 50 minutes.

Hi Barbara, Happy Monday to you too... Your white bread recipe looks delicious... Sometimes, I love to eat white bread. Don't do it much anymore --but it's SO good...

Don't miss my last Friday's post on the Grand Canyon --if you didn't see it. It's one of my fav's EVER.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi there dear one, What a Prov.31 woman you are; wish I could try your bread but can't have gluten.
You are such a great encourager and I am thankful for you.
Hugs today.
