My Alabaster Box

My Alabaster Box

Alabaster was very expensive in Bible times, and if a person bought an alabaster box, it was only used for very important Alabaster historically was a symbol of purity and great honour purposes.

These boxes were of alabaster, which in ancient times men made hollow to put in ointments: for some write that alabaster keeps ointment without changing it in any way.

Luke 7:37 "And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment," VS 38 "And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. VS 39 "Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner."

Jesus proceeds to to tell them what the truth is, the Pharisee expresses disgust that such a woman, who, a sinner, should be allowed to do such a thing, Christ rebukes him and points out that since the woman has entered, she has done nothing but minister to him while the Pharisee, whose name is Simon, has done nothing. He then turns to the woman and pardons her of all her sins for her great devotion.

It is the receiving vessel, into which the Holy Spirit pours and the individual can be transformed. Here it is filled with ointment. The woman is not just washing Christ but ANOINTING him. And remember that the word Christ means 'Anointed One'. Can we do the same for Jesus, may we be anointed by him, and in return anoint him with our honor, our worship, and our adoration. This is such a wonderful story in God's holy word, we were at that Revival all last week, a couple of nights one of the ladies sang Alabaster Box, it is heart touching, and breaks your heart, I spent many hours in tears last week, God truly touched my heart, and this song is one of the most anointed songs I have heard in a very long time. Oh that you could all hear it, has anyone ever heard it, or am I just behind times, so I did a search and come up with this. I hope you can get this UTUBE to play and hear it as well as sing along with it, get your hankie, you will be in tears, I promise...

Alabaster Box the Lyrics

VERSE 1

The room grew still as she made her way to Jesus
She stumbles through the tears that made her blind
She felt such pain, some spoke in anger
Heard folks whisper, there's no place here for her kind.
Still on she came, through the shame that flushed her face
Until at last she knelt before His feet. And though she spoke no words
Everything she said was heard, As she poured her love for the Master
From her box of Alabaster.

CHORUS

And I've come to pour my praise on Him like oil from Mary's Alabaster Box
Don't be angry if I wash His feet with my tears and I dry them with my hair.
You weren't there the night He found me.
You did not feel what I felt when He wrapped His love all around me.
And you don't know the cost of the oil in my Alabaster Box.

VERSE 2

I can't forget the way life used to be. I was a prisoner to the sin that had me bound
I spent my days pouring my life without measure.
Into a little treasure box I thought I found. Until the day when Jesus came to me
And healed my soul with the wonder of His touch.
So now I'm giving back to Him all the praise He's worthy of .
I've been forgiven and that's why I love Him so much.

CHORUS

And I've come to pour my praise on Him like oil from Mary's Alabaster Box
Don't be angry if I wash His feet with my tears
And I dry them with my hair, my hair.
You weren't there the night Jesus found me. You did not feel what I felt
When He wrapped His love all around me. And you don't know the cost of the oil
Oh, you don't know the cost of my praise. You don't know the cost of the oil
In my Alabaster Box.

Hope you can listen to it.
